Cryotherapy Pen Treatments

What is a cryotherapy pen?

The Cryotherapy Pen is a cutting-edge, non-invasive, medical device used to precisely treat a wide range of skin imperfections and benign lesions. Using extreme cold to target unwanted skin cells, this hand-held device offers a fast, effective solution with minimal discomfort and downtime.

How does cryotherapy pen work?

The Cryotherapy Pen works by delivering a targeted stream of nitrous oxide to the skin at sub-zero temperatures. This freezing process causes the rapid destruction of unwanted or abnormal skin cells, causing the targeted tissue to freeze and subsequently die off, without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. The treatment is quick, usually lasting between 5 and 30 seconds depending on the size and depth of the lesion.

The body’s natural healing process then removes the treated tissue over the following days and weeks, leaving behind smoother, clearer skin.

What conditions can it treat?

The Cryotherapy Pen is highly effective for a variety of benign skin lesions, including:

  • Skin tags
  • Warts
  • Verrucas
  • Cherry angiomas (red moles)
  • Milia
  • Pigmentation marks; Age /liver spots, sun spots, freckles
  • Birth marks

What are the benefits of Cryotherapy Pen Treatments?

  • Precision: Targets only the lesion, sparing surrounding skin
  • Non-invasive: No cutting, stitches, or anaesthesia required
  • Minimal Discomfort: Many patients find the procedure to be painless compared to traditional methods
  • Quick and convenient: Most treatments take less than a minute
  • Minimal downtime: Patients can return to normal activities almost immediately
  • Low risk of scarring: Proper aftercare reduces the chance of skin damage
  • Safe and hygienic: Single-use cartridges and sterile application

Does the Cryopen treatment hurt?

CryoPen treatments are typically painless, but some patients may feel a brief stinging sensation. Even if you do experience some discomfort, it’ll only last for a few seconds.

The cryopen operates at freezing temperatures and the cold acts as a natural anaesthetic. Most patients say it just feels cold for a few seconds.

How many treatments will I need?

Most small lesions (skin tags, freckles, etc) will respond to a single treatment. However, some deeper lesions may take several treatments to get results. This will be discussed in the consultation once the lesion has been assessed.

Typically warts and verrucas need 2-3 sessions as the roots are normally deep rooted.

Will I see immediate results?

The lesion will develop a blister or scab within 24 hours. This usually lasts for 2-7 days. How long it will take to see the full results varies depending on the type of lesion and depth of skin penetrated, but you should see visible results within 2-6 weeks

Can anyone have Cryopen treatment?

Unfortunately there are some medical condtions that would make cryopen treatments unsafe, these are;

  • Cold Urticaria/intolerance
  • Cryoglobulinemia
  • Raynaud’s disease
  • Pregnant/breastfeeding
  • Melanoma, recurrent BCC or SCC, cancer, malignant tumour
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Immunosuppression/concurrent treatment with immunosuppressant
  • Pyoderma gangrenosum
  • Collagen vascular disease
