Mole & Skin Lesion Checks

What is Map My Mole?

Map My Mole, by Community Dermatology Limited, is a private service that offers remote assessments of moles & skin lesions, in line with the British Association of Dermatologists teledermatology guidelines. and the NHS England guidance on the use of Teledermatology  All of their doctors are leading UK consultant dermatologists who work both privately and for the NHS.

The service was developed to bring mole assessment services to the high street & make them more accessible for everyone, to reduce the anxious wait for results of moles of concern, and to relieve the pressure on GP's and the NHS.

Most people cannot afford private dermatology fees & getting to see a GP takes time & often results in a referral to a specialist. The waiting time from start to finish can be weeks & this can be anxious wait-which is avoidable.

As a registered Map My Mole provider, we can access UK consultant dermatologists for an opinion on your mole or skin lesion within 48 hours.

How does Map My Mole work?

1. We will ask you some questions about your skin & mole/lesion

2. We'll take a series of images of your skin, and using a special lens, some detailed images of your mole or lesion

3. A consultant dermatologist at Map My Mole will review your answers & images

4. You'll receive a digital copy of your report with their findings & advice on what steps to take next, within 48 hours

  • Peace of mind knowing your mole or skin lesion has been professionally assessed
  • Connect with UK leading consultant dermatologists
  • Speed up the time it takes to get seen and treated
  • No waiting on a GP to refer you to see a dermatologist

Will I see a consultant dermatologist in person?

No, this is a remote service. The images taken will be sent directly to the dermatolgist for them to review

How are the images taken?

We take several images using a normal camera and then some detailed images using a special lens called a dermatoscope

What's included in my report?

Your report will include the consultant dermatologist's opinion on what your mole or skin lesion is and advice on what steps you should take next

What happens if the report finds a suspicious mole or lesion?

If a consultant thinks the mole/lesion is of concern, they will ask you to see your GP or dermatologist. Map My Mole will also phone you to check that you have read & understood your report

Can the dermatologists at Map My Mole diagnose skin cancer or a cancerous mole?

No, skin cancer diagnosis requires a biopsy, and cannot be diagnosed from images. If the dermatologist thinks a mole or lesion is concerning, they will ask you to see your GP or a dermatologist. This does not necessarily mean that you have skin cancer, but does mean that it needs further investigation.

Most GP's will take the action recommended by the consultant without needing to see you first. All of the Map My Mole consultants also work in the NHS and are on the General Medical Council register of Dermatology Specialists, so GP's know they are very experienced. Your GP may give you a prescription or refer you to your local Dermatology department
